When Was the Last Time You Created Just for You?

As adults, we often forget the simple magic of doing something just for the joy of it. Our lives become a cycle of responsibilities, routines, deadlines, and performance. Even the things that once brought us happiness—like working out, cooking, or even hobbies—tend to become goal-oriented. “Did I do enough reps?” “Did I hit my steps today?” “Was it productive?”

But when was the last time you created something with no agenda? No outcome in mind. No audience to impress. Just for yourself.

When we were children, we didn’t care if the drawing looked "good" or if we coloured outside the lines. We danced because the music made us feel alive. We scribbled, built, imagined, and played without any shame or hesitation. That freedom is still within us—it’s just been buried under years of expectations and “shoulds.”

Recently, I found myself reflecting on the things I used to love as a child. I would get lost for hours in anything involving colour, texture, and creating something out of nothing. There was no pressure. It was all about exploration and feeling. That’s what sparked my journey into art—it wasn’t about creating masterpieces. It was about giving myself permission to just be with my imagination again.

So, I’m inviting you to ask yourself:

🖌️ What did you enjoy doing as a child?

🧩 What made you feel most like you, even if you didn’t realize it back then?

🌿 When was the last time you let yourself play, explore, or create—without judging the outcome?

Maybe it’s time to pick up that sketchpad again. Maybe it’s dancing in your living room. Maybe it’s baking, gardening, or writing poetry that no one will ever read. Whatever it is, do it. For you.

Because the truth is, that inner child never left—you just stopped listening for a while.

And the moment you give yourself permission to reconnect with them, everything begins to shift.

With warmth and wonder, Patrizia
